Brigitte “Ghetta” Whaley Catalfu Langhurst
Brigitte Whaley Catalfu Langhurst, known as “Ghetta”, 78, passed away after a brief illness on June 2, 2021 surrounded by loved ones at her home in Corry, PA.
She was born to the late Earnest W. Whaley and Louise Kohl Whaley Dziedzic on December 18, 1942 in Bremen, Germany.
She moved to the United States in 1948. In 1961 she graduated from Corry Area Jr/Sr High School. Ghetta loved the simple things in life! Her talents were not only in her cooking but also, crochet, knitting, needlepoint, sewing, etc. Family can attest she was the best cook and baker as she baked professional quality cakes for special occasions throughout the years. She always made sure “everyone Ate!” She worked for many years as an administrative assistant for different companies. She retired as a cook for the Inn at Verona in Verona, VA, where her talents shined making visitors feel welcomed.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Langhurst; her three daughters; Lisa Catalfu Hatter (Steve) of Virgina, Robin Catalfu Staswoiski (Jon) of North Carolina, and Jill Catalfu Webb (Kevan) of Corry, PA; her grandchildren, Brandon Catalfu, Heather Medley, Meghan Sandridge, Ashlee Allen, Kaitlyn Webb and Ryan Webb; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Tyler Catalfu, Bryce and Jayce Medley, Caleb and Connor Becerra, and Hallee Allen. Ghetta is also survived by her first husband, Albert Catalfu.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandson, Justin Sandridge, and her brother, Ernest “Billy” Whaley.
There will be a small memorial service on Sunday, June 6 at Compass Ministries, aka “Columbus Church”, at 1:00pm. A reception will be held immediately after the service to celebrate the life of Brigitte “Ghetta”.
