James “Jim” Andrew Docter

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of James “Jim” Andrew Docter, of Erie, PA.  Born December 26, 1958 in Union City, PA, the only child of Kenneth Edward Docter and Janet (Barton) Docter Urso.  Jim passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 9:45 PM peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family.  He had been battling pancreatitis for years.

Jim graduated from Penncrest high School in Cambridge Springs, Class of 1976.  He worked at Urick Foundry in Erie, PA for over 34 years before having to retire due to his illness.  Jim enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.  He enjoyed everything to do with the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping, and canoeing on the river.  He loved spending time with all of his grandchildren and teaching them how to do anything and everything.  His grandchildren all loved their Papa.

Jim met his wife, Cindy, fell in love, and proposed on may 31, 1977, and they were married shortly thereafter on June 18, 1977.

Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cindy Lynn (Mott) Docter, and his mother, Janet Urso.  In addition, Jim is survived by his two children, Jason Edward Docter (wife Holly Ann (Nearhoof) Docter), and Brandi Lynn (Docter) Scalise (wife Amy Marcella Scalise), and six grandchildren, all of whom he adored, Kylie Ann, Tayler Andrew, Cole Michael, Jamison Elijiah, Veronica Paige, and Anthony Michael.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Walter Jerome Mott and his mother-in-law, Jane Cassie (Woodcock) Mott, and his step mother, Betty (Johnson) Docter.

Per Jim’s request, there will be no viewing or visitation.
