William "Bill" Holland
William “Bill” Holland referred to by many as “ Papa Bill” went to rest peacefullyon March 4, 2017 surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born in Erie, Pa on December 24, 1938, the son of the late Phillip and Lillie Holland and the brother of Judy Bien.
Bill attended Penn State University, served in the Army Reserves, and worked as a sales representative for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying sailing, fishing, hunting and the camaraderie he shared with friends at hunting camps. He sailed and raced on the Enigma spending many years on Lake Erie. He had a passion for sports forever cheering for the Cleveland Indians and Penn State football.
He is survived by Sharon Holland his loving and devoted wife of 33 years and his children Lynn (John) Hess, Alison (Doug) Clarke, Selena Ludwig, and Rob (Julie) Ludwig. He was a father figure and mentor to grandchildren Robert, Jason, and Mandi Ludwig. Bill thoroughly cherished spending time with his many grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. Bill will be forever remembered for hosting his annual pig roasts, greeting everyone with a smile, a firm handshake, a witty sense of humor, and the ability to manage life without a care in the world.
The family would like to extend great appreciation to the medical team at Hamot Hospital for the attentive, compassionate care. We will be forever grateful. Memorial contributions can be made to the Regional Cancer Center of Erie. A celebration of his life will be held this summer.
