Darnell “Malik” Nathaniel Stallworth, Jr.
Darnell “Malik” Nathaniel Stallworth, Jr. was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 4, 1970, to parents Gwendolyn V. Conway Williams and Darnell Stallworth. Darnell passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022.
He is survived by one brother, Tyrone K. Stallworth, Sr.; paternal half-siblings, Jermain, Taylor, Yetta, and Nefertiti; his Stepfather, Henry Williams; cousins, Dr. Veronica Hawkins, Lea Vance, and Clinton Didymus; two uncles both named Robert; aunts, Cynthia and Mona, and countless other relatives from both his mother’s and father’s sides of the family. He is also survived by many grandchildren, and his children, Darnell Stallworth IV, Tawnisha Dorsey, Malik Stallworth, Alim Stallworth, Nafese Stallworth, Kristian Zaire, Kalise Victoria, and more. Darnell grew up in North Philly on Sydenham Street which was a family of its own.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers and grandfathers.
He attended Simon Gratz High School. He loved to dance and was in many school programs Popping and Locking then he started breakdancing. Darnell found his home and purpose in the Progressive Movement in Northwest Pa. He started the fight with ADAPT and United Homecare Workers of Pa barely out of a nursing home. He discovered a passion for political activism and politics with SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania. Darnell was a founding member of Erie County United, where he most recently sat on the Police Accountability Campaign Team. He was a Community Organizer with Keystone Progress where he was a founder of the Green New Deal Coalition. Darnell was a youth violence counselor with MATV. He was the first chair of the Erie Black Caucus. He was instrumental in electing several local, state, and national political leaders, and was a poll worker most recently on November 8th of 2022. Darnell had a long history with the SSJ and their neighborhood efforts being a neighborhood coordinator. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the community.
Memorial services will be held for Darnell on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Greater Calvary FGBC, 2624 German St., Erie, PA 16504.
