Mary Jane (Brew) Burns
Mary Jane (Brew) Burns, 87, of Fairview, passed away on April 28, 2022, peacefully, and surrounded by her loving family, after an extended illness. She was born in Erie on July 26, 1934, daughter of the late Eugene J. and Rosanna (Bowers) Brew. She was a 1952 graduate of Strong Vincent High School, attended Westminster College and graduated from Vermont Junior College, Montpelier, VT.
Mary Jane was a Special Education teacher at the Barber National Institute and a talented writer of poetry and prose. She wrote articles which were published in Concern Magazine and was selected to attend the writer's workshop at Ghost Ranch, New Mexico, in 1975. She enjoyed nature and the outdoors, travel, reading, music, faith, and family.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, the Junior League of Erie and Big Brothers Big Sisters of NW PA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene J. Brew, Jr., Esq.
She is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, Franklin Foster Burns; three children, Michael Eugene Burns, Esq. (Pheona Cheddie) and Carrie Burns Frase (Adam) of Erie, and Joshua Owen Burns (Lin) of Short Hills, NJ; three grandchildren, Myah and Arie Frase and Joshua O. Burns, Jr.; her sister, Rosanna Brew Fleming (Claude) of Harper Woods, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call on the family at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 250 W. 7th St., Erie, on Saturday, May 7, 2022 beginning at 10:00 am, for a time of visitation, which will be followed by a Celebration of Life & Memorial Service at 11:00 am, officiated by the Rev. Chris Weichman. A reception will follow the service.
