Bernice “Bernie” B. (Sorenson) Nevogt
Bernice “Bernie” B. (Sorenson) Nevogt, age 94, of Corry, PA, passed into the arms of Jesus with a full and very tired heart on December 27, 2022. Bernie was born on December 1, 1928 in Corry, PA to the late Opal and Oluf Sorenson.
She was a 1946 Corry graduate. Bernie participated in many activities including playing the clarinet in the band and marching band, choir, and was an accompanist pianist. She was a drill and staff sergeant in Jr. CAP, and helped conducting blackouts during the war. After graduation she worked for a short time in Washington, DC for the Navy. While there she took piano lessons from President Truman's pianist and he wanted her to be a concert pianist, but she wasn't interested.
In 1950, she married George Nevogt and lived the rest of her life in the Corry area. She worked at various jobs but was mostly a homemaker devoted to her family, home, her animals, her many crafts, and was an avid bowler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Nevogt in 1999; her brother, Wilbur Sorenson; her nephew, Richard Sorenson; her brother and sister-in-law, Rodger and Gerda Mushrush, and their family, and her brother-in-law, Juergen Nevogt.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Wetmore (David) of Corry; her grandchildren, Jim Theisen (Lauren) of Erie, PA, Jaime Swanson (Nick) of Arvada, CO, and Jeffrey J. Theisen of Corry; five great-grandchildren, Evan, Lizzy, and Annie, of Erie, and Charley and Wyatt of Arvada, CO. Also surviving are her nephews, Doug Sorenson (Shirley) of Erie, Eric (Robin) Nevogt, and Glen Nevogt (Kathy) of Indiana; her nieces, Kay Pelinsky (Jim) of Florida, and Ruth Temple (Jack) of Kentucky, and a sister-in-law, Virginia Nevogt of Indiana, and their families.
A graveside memorial is planned for next summer.
