William “Bill” Keith Haynes
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William Keith Haynes. Bill was born in 1937 in Meadville, PA, the son of the late Benjamin and Florence Haynes. He grew up in Harborcreek, PA, and lived his entire life in the Erie area. His passing on the morning of June 4, 2024 was a beautiful day for him to meet Jesus.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Nancy Newcomer, Mary Ann Cook, and Rodney Haynes.
He was lovingly married to MaryEllen Haynes for the past 25 years. Throughout his 86 years, he contributed in many capacities. Bill served in the United States Air Force for 4 1/2 years and later owned and operated The Straw Hat Drive In, which was his pride and joy. While he thoroughly enjoyed a good poker game (or any card game), restoring and driving his ’67 Corvette, hunting and relaxing at his camp in the mountains, and wintering in Florida, by far his deepest love was his ever-growing faith in God and spending time with his family. Bill lived his life building connections with everyone he met. He took his role as Patriarch of the family quite seriously, always willing to share wisdom, spread love, and give advice when requested. His curiosity, creativity, kind spirit, helpful and generous nature, and sense of humor made a positive impact on
each of us.
Feeling immeasurable loss are those who loved him, especially Mary Ellen, are his children, Pamela Mackowski Logan (Peter) and Edward Haynes (Alora); his grandchildren, Michael Mackowski (Rebecca), Matthew Mackowski (Alexa), J.J. Mackowski (Savanah), Kristen Cole (Matthew), and Colin Haynes; great granddaughters, Harper, Madison, Hayden, and Mackenzie; stepchildren, Janice Findlay (Mark) and Ronald Forbes (Pamela); and step-grandchildren, Sara, Ian, Melissa (Taylor) and Kyle; and step great-granddaughter, Emma.
He will also be sadly missed by sister-in-law, Suzanne Haynes; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Frank Kuzma (Elaine), Glenn Kuzma (Carol), Paul Kuzma (Fran), Sr. Rose Kuzma, Joseph Kuzma (Bertie), Pauline Kisiel, Michael Kuzma (Linda), and Marilyn Moore (Tom); and many treasured nephews, nieces, friends, and neighbors.
