Harris “Duck” Ray Berkhous
Harris “Duck” R. Berkhous, age 81, of Erie, formerly of Corry, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021.
Born in Corry on August 4, 1939, he was a son of the late Homer and Lucille (Craker) Berkhous.
Duck served in the US Marine Corps in Korea from 1959 to 1963. While in the Marines, he earned a good conduct medal and rifle marksman badge. He worked in construction all his life, and loved gardening, growing the biggest sunflowers in the world.
Duck married the former Helen Sperry on November 16, 1970 and was a devoted husband, taking especially good care of her through her final days. He stepped up and became a father to Carol aka Dynamite. He taught her how to drive, took her to all the local fairs and loved scaring her at the top of the Ferris wheel. Bought her a little palomino filly named Princess because he knew she loved her so much. He loved being a grandpa and would give the kids rides on the lawn mower over and over again. His sense of humor was unique and he will be missed by many.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Carol (Tinko) Mosko; his sisters, Sally Hellyer and Kate Vadovich; his grandchildren, Michael Mosko, Jennifer Anderson, Alan Mosko (Kelly), and Matthew Mosko; 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Gibbs; his brothers, Charles Berkhous and Jerry Berkhous, and his great grandson, Brady Mosko.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service with Military Honors on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Westlawn Cemetery in Columbus, PA.
